2015's Losing the Signal: The Untold Story Behind the Extraordinary Rise and Spectacular Fall of BlackBerry is more-or-less what it says on the tin. I began reading this book months ago and had various diversions. It's not badly written, it's more that the authors made a choice about how to present the narrative that I … Continue reading Dyke Media Reads: Losing the Signal
Dyke Media Watch: Veronica Mars
What a long, strange trip it's been. Honestly, found it a good and compelling story of being a teenager who is pretty much from the wrong side of the tracks. It's definitely worth the watch though. It has a curious history. It started out as a UPN show in its first two seasons becoming one … Continue reading Dyke Media Watch: Veronica Mars
The road not taken.
Story time! Y'all know I had a Kawasaki Ninja 1000. Some of you know I bought it in the early months of my divorce in 2017. None of you know that I considered another vehicle, one with four wheels. It literally came down to a coin toss…if that silver dollar had landed on the other … Continue reading The road not taken.
Tasty false prophets!
Rise! Rise my yeasties and multiply! Praise Poppin' Fresh! This goes under "sometimes life hands you material." I live on a cul-de-sac where there are no driveways at the very end so someone setup a portable basketball goal there. I'm in the last house on one side and happened to look toward the end when … Continue reading Tasty false prophets!
Dike media watch: Futurama
This was our go-to for when we wanted to watch something before bed but there wasn't enough time for something with longer episodes. Overall it's fun but nothing spectacular and it's unsurprisingly disjointed given its production history - there were 4 episodes that were written to be series finales because of uncertainty.
The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas…
A couple long exposure shots from my campsite. It wasn't a great time for star gazing as it was the week of the full moon. A 5 minute exposure. The tree is illuminated by our campfire. 20 minute exposure. It was a little cloudy and you can see the cloud glow from the moon.
Dyke Media Watch: Lucifer
Loved the show, disappointed in the series finale. Since the final season only went up this month I won't post much. I kind of feel about this like I did about Star Trek: Enterprise - the finale felt phoned-in, though for vastly different reasons. Regardless, I would suggest checking it out. It's on Netflix; was … Continue reading Dyke Media Watch: Lucifer
On vacation!
I'm on vacation in west Texas and will send updates later. For now enjoy this photo from my campsite while I was making coffee yesterday morning.
On vacation!
Heading for a week of camping in west Texas. Currently at a waypoint in Junction. Sign inside Junction Burger Texas liquor store.
Scrapple (random bits & pieces)
Friday was the one year anniversary of my second marriage, at least as we observe it. I don't know if I posted about this: we had wanted to get married in a small ceremony in conjunction with a weekly event that It was a major part of our life from our third date until everything … Continue reading Scrapple (random bits & pieces)
