Did some light off roading
I was helping some of my queer family renovate a 150 year old railroad house in rural Texas. It had been a water stop.

Step right up!
Is this my perfect bike? I have had the Ninja nearly a year and a half now. When I bought it I was debating something else, maybe a 300. Perhaps the ER-6n or its more dressed twin, the Ninja 650R (a.k.a. ER-6f.) And then I found the deal on this Ninja 1000. Even then I … Continue reading Step right up!
Hybrid travel – motorcycle to/from the airport
Twice this year I've had air travel where rides weren't easily available on the home end so I took the bike. The first was to Minneapolis in August for a conference while the second was to Raleigh in October for a conference and to visit with my parents and friends. Blue Ridge trip

Mabry Mill At one point I picked up a hitchhiker - a butterfly got stuck against my brake control. Surprisingly it … Continue reading Blue Ridge trip
One good detour deserves another.
Going to Ashland, Kentucky, meant the next city en route was Indianapolis, and the usual next would be Chicago... ...except when miles of I-65 are closed and they detour you on I-74. I'm getting dinner in Normal, Illinois, at a delightful restaurant that I remember from when I was here business three years ago, and … Continue reading One good detour deserves another.
Day one
Not a lot to say about the first day on the road. My plan was to get to Dayton, Ohio, but I had to divert westward to get behind a squall line that included some potentially severe thunderstorms. Stop poured for the night in Ashland, Kentucky.
