In 2011 a new local restaurant opened in Durham: Geer St Garden. They went heavily on local and regional foods, including alcohol, and they had several signature cocktails. This Harvest Moon was one of them. It involves maple syrup and apple cider. And it's delicious! The recipe calls for a chilled martini glass but I … Continue reading Harvest Moon
National Coming Out Day +1
I was occupied yesterday with getting ready to start my new job so forgot this but this is me: a polyamorous trans dyke on a bike. I bought the shirt in 2016 for the protests against North Carolina HB2. I was ultimately interviewed by media about that.
Tent camping gear: cheap tarp
This was a tip I picked up a couple years ago. Cheap plastic tarps, like from Harbor Freight, are useful when camping. They can be a footprint if your tent doesn't have one. I use the smallest one HF sells in the vestibule of my tents since the footprint doesn't cover that. It was $3.
Honeymoon!
My work start date was to be in late September but was pushed back. That meant my wife and I could get a honeymoon in. The destination was a KOA in East Texas. It turned out to be nicely laid-out; like most such campgrounds the emphasis is RVs but the tent area is separated from … Continue reading Honeymoon!

Operation … Continue reading Gear review

Final look
Formerly my Ninja 1000 going for parts and scrap.
No more Ms Ninja
Got word from the shop today; it's going to cost too much to repair the Ninja 1000 so it's off to the scrap yard. The BMW R1100R is heading to the shop on Tuesday to get back on the road after being parked for 3 years. I'm sad about this because the Ninja was the … Continue reading No more Ms Ninja
Helping with BASH scripting
Had a question in one of my tech communities about needing a BASH script to split a bunch of CSV files into two halves with appending a 1 or 2 to the filenames. Below is one way to do it that I wrote in a couple minutes. Watch for line-wrap in the next to last … Continue reading Helping with BASH scripting
Coffeeology 101
I switched from an automatic drip maker to pour-over. I realized that the cost of a truly decent drip maker was just not worth it. So far I'm liking it better. I'm not really interested in going any further - pre-ground is good enough for my tastes. The dripper is a Sea To Summit X-Brew … Continue reading Coffeeology 101
